About DBA Silencing
A Family Business
DBA Silencing, a subsidiary of Handy-Andy Maintenance Ltd., is a manufacturing firm located in Canada’s West Coast rainforest. We are headquartered – specifically – in Port Alberni, British Columbia, and our parts are in use around the globe.
DBA is a family business that has expanded over the decades and is now a key aftermarket supplier for corporate customers such as Canadian Natural, Caterpillar, Cummins, Imperial Oil, Komatsu, Suncor, and Teck Coal. We are also an OEM supplier for Liebherr Mining Equipment.
In the early years, DBA’s success was driven by the hard work and savvy decision-making of its owners, Archie and Shirley Cardinal. While Archie and Shirley are no longer as involved as they once were in the company’s day-to-day operations, one of DBA’s General Managers is their granddaughter, Cydney Pedersen. DBA’s other General Manager is Cydney’s husband, Darien Edgeler.
DBA Operates Three Facilities
- Our 4th Avenue building houses our welding shop, which is managed by Alan Hobbs, a longtime member of the DBA team.
- Our Burde Street complex comprises our fibreglass shop, our paint department, our shipping department, and our administrative office. Jamie La Porte is in charge of DBA’s shipping, and our administrative office is the workplace of our Senior Administrator, Leeann Graitson, and our Office Manager, Michelle Hedingham.
- Our property on Dundalk Avenue, meanwhile, is home to our sand blasting and powder coating departments. Dundalk is also where we produce flanges, and this site is supervised by Sayaz Sattar. DBA’s Operations Manager, Larry Voysey, oversees all of this and he’s another member of the DBA team who has been with the company for many years.
Our Primary Focus
At DBA, our primary focus is the manufacturing of components for mining, logging, and marine applications. Our speciality? Individual exhaust parts and full exhaust systems for mining trucks. We also produce air intake parts and systems, and coolant components and coolant kits. DBA offers, in addition, services such as powder coating and sand blasting to local customers. While most of the parts we ship are standard units, we provide custom products and tailor-made solutions as well.
DBA Silencing has, for decades, been an important employer in The Alberni Valley. Our team is a diverse array of individuals, and we are proudly inclusive. We also give back where we can; DBA provides ongoing financial support to arts organizations such as The Portal Players Dramatic Society, to animal-oriented non-profits such as The Furever Endeavour Rescue Network, and to sports groups such as the Indigenous basketball squad The Chieftains.
While DBA doesn’t have a formal mission statement, our goal as an organization is to improve the lives of our customers by making top-notch components at competitive prices. We also try to have a little fun while we’re at it.
